BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION
Reporting to the American Space and Makerspace Almaty (ASMS) Manager, the American Spaces (AS) Coordinator proactively designs, coordinates, and delivers a diverse array of outreach, educational, and professional development programs. Collaborating closely with the Makerspace (MS) Almaty Coordinator, this role ensures comprehensive programming aligning with Mission and State Department goals. Additionally, this position contributes to strategic planning, manages communications platforms, and trains/manages volunteers.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Program Planning, Management, and Delivery: 50%
- Strategically plans and executes outreach programs in alignment with Mission and AS goals, including developing monthly event calendars, analyzing target audiences, recruiting speakers, organizing logistics, and overseeing program expenses.
- Collaborates with experts, educators, entrepreneurs, and cultural leaders to deliver high-quality programming, while managing a network of American and Kazakhstani volunteers.
- Keeps detailed records and statistics, prepares analytical reports on program effectiveness and submitting regular reports on AS programming to the ASMS Manager.
- Cultivates a welcoming environment for visitors, contributes to drafting space-use policies, and manages space and programmatic resources, recommending enhancements as needed.
- Coordinates with fellow ASMS Manager to ensure each AS event has a communications plan to include photos and SMM content, as appropriate.
2. Communications Management and Strategy Development: 30%
- Leads ASMS social media, working alongside the EZ Solutions Project Manager and MS Coordinator to market programs effectively through social media channels and collects social media statistics.
- Runs and maintains communications platforms, including the ASMS Instagram, ensuring they align with outreach and program goals.
- Develops comprehensive communications strategies supporting outreach and program objectives.
3. Volunteers Training and Management: 15%
- Recruits, trains, mentors, and supervises volunteers effectively, ensuring their contribution enhances program delivery.
4. Other Duties as Assigned: 5%
- Undertakes miscellaneous tasks as directed by the ASMS Manager, contributing flexibly to the evolving needs of the position.
MINIMUM DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
a. Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
b. Prior Work Experience: Two years of experience in program management, outreach development and delivery.
c. Language Proficiency: High-intermediate to advanced English skills; fluency in Kazakh and Russian.
e. Knowledge: Familiarity with U.S. and Kazakhstani history, politics, culture and society. Familiarity with emerging technology, program design and marketing/public relations.
f. Skills and Abilities: Excellent customer, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills. Ability to respond rapidly to complex requests; to independently plan, organize, and carry out assigned responsibilities; Ability to prioritize work and incoming requests. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
POSITION ELEMENTS
a. Supervision Received: Supervised by ASMS Manager.
b. Available Guidelines: On-the-job training, guidance from U.S. Consulate staff.
c. Supervision exercised: Provides guidance to interns and volunteers.
g. Time Required to Perform Full Range of Duties after Entry into the Position: With the necessary qualifications and prior work experience as stated above, an incumbent should be able to carry out duties within three months of assuming the position.
h. Work environment. Due to constant interaction with a demanding public and frequent deadlines with short notice, work can be very stressful. Constantly changing environment requires continuous independent learning, and continual updating of skills. Regular travel in greater Almaty and travel outside of Almaty on an as-needed basis. Includes weekend and evening work.
